Lake Powell

Wow! Lake Powell is so cool! I've never been there before, so it was really exciting to spend a week up there on a high adventure trip with the scouts and my dad! I also overcame my fear of open water. I had so much fun, even though I got a sunburn. One of the days we were there, we went on a swike, which is a "swim-hike." We went for a swim down a canyon, which was fun, until we got to the "gross". There was a whole bunch of little pieces of sticks, wood chips, grass, dead bugs, chap stick, and lots of other stuff, which I called "gross". Everyone else called it "crap." And since the walls were so close to you at some parts, the gross got very thick and sometimes smelly, so it made you think that you were in the garbage compacter in Star Wars, and the compactor monster was going to come up, grab your leg, and pull you under. Anyway, after the swim part of the swike, we, well...hiked. (No duh.) It was still the narrow canyon, like what we were swimming through, but it was even more narrow, and bone dry. Our hands would get very red from touching the sandstone walls, because our hands were still wet, so the sand on the sandstone walls would just stick right to you. It was amazing to look up and see how high it was compared to where you were standing, but then, we turned around, and had to walk back to swim back to the boats. Which means swimming through the gross again. Well, at least the water got clear by the boats. Even though the gross was getting inside the sleeves of my shirt and rubbing against my sunburn, and it was smelly going through the gross, I had fun. Since then I have returned home, and the sunburn on my arms is peeling off. Overall, I consider this the funnest camping trip I have ever been on.
