Parent Training

This past week totally SUCKED!

It was my 9th grade class, Teen Living. I really didn't enjoy the flour baby that I got at first. I had to get up at 2:00 every night, and "walk" it around for fifteen minutes. That wasn't fun. Then, on Tuesday, I traded my flour baby for a mechanical baby. I had two choices: The baby with the moving head that you have to support, and has one key that you have to hold in the back of the baby for up to ten minutes, or the baby with five keys. One is diaper change, another burp, feed, attention, and panic. We weren't supposed to use the panic key.

I chose the baby with five keys.

It smelled like a baby that fell into a swimming pool full of fowl-smelling rubber. I don't think that I can explain it anymore, because it's a little hard. I do like the smell of babies, however, but that smell was bad! At night, I ended up waking up to the baby crying at 12:00 at night. About seven minutes later, just as I was falling back to sleep, the baby started crying. I picked up the baby, turned it on it's stomach for about two seconds, while I unzipped the back of the clothing. I was turning it upright, while I was starting to insert a key, and simultaneously thought what my teacher said about not laying the baby on it's stomach, or else it will cry, and also at the same time seeing the "Abuse" light turn on. I swear on the bible, looking at my great, great, great grandmother's gravestone, and standing on the grave, looking toward Heaven, ready to stick a needle in my eye, and crossing my heart at the same time, that I did not do anything to abuse that mechanical baby!!! I was so frustrated, that I decided that I wasn't going to pay any attention to it anymore. Then, as I was laying in bed, trying to fall asleep again, I realized how much I hated jumping at every noise that the baby made, and also that it might help kill my grade in the class if I neglect the baby as well as "abuse" it. I decided that since I probably wasn't going to get much sleep anyway, I would stay up with the baby. I headed downstairs to the couch. I saw my dad sitting on the couch. He was kind of asleep. I turned around, and decided that I wouldn't bother him. He saw me just as I was leaving, and said my name. I turned around, and to make a long story short, my dad ended up leaving to go to bed (gee I wonder why) I stayed up with that baby on the couch. I watched TV until I felt drowsy. It was around 2:30 when I slowly laid down on the couch. I don't want you to get the idea that the baby stopped crying, because it hadn't. I slowly drifted to sleep. I woke up at 2:45, 3:00 and 3:30 and that was the last time that baby cried until it was 6:15. What a night!

I was glad to give the baby back, and trade it for the flour sack. (Which I turned in today!)

Spring?

· General, Home

Where is the Spring? I don't get it! It comes for a while, and just when you think it's here to stay, BAM! You wake up in the morning and there is six feet of snow. At least for me. Utah is just weird.... I sometimes want to move away, like when I have a family of my own, then I want to move to the Caribbean. Then I think about it and realize that I would miss the snow. Winter would come, and there would be no snow. I would just imagine that it would be worse than having snow in the middle of Spring, and then when I do see the snow and cold in the middle of Spring, then I change my mind again. If I put everything together, I think that living where the ocean is so close overpowers my decision. I start thinking about the ocean, and realize that I would rather have it than snow. Well, I just hope that things start to warm up. What about global warming now!?!?

The Barn

This one's for grandpa! He wanted me to take a picture of the horseshoe hangers in the barn on Saturday, and this is how the best one turned out. I'm glad that he suggested an angle that would be cool.Horseshoe Hangers

Flowers

Poor, poor freezing flowers!

Flowers at AF Library!

I was lucky to snap my first flower picture of 2009 at the AF Library! Before it got cold....

Optical illusion!

· General

I found this yesterday, and I'm glad that I can share it. If you look at the picture, then step back three meters, the faces seem to swap places. Go on, try it!

Faces

Did it work? I like this optical illusion. If somebody knows how it works, please feel free to post and tell me about it!

How about this one. This is a still picture, nothing moving.

Rice Wave

Does it wave? I think I have the idea of how this one works, but I still think that it is cool!

81/365, and then I failed....

First of all, I would like to say that I have a reason why I haven't blogged or posted on Project 365 in a long while. I have had a lot of work to do at school, and in the middle of catching up to the first semester, I think that I couldn't have possibly juggled anything more. So now I am caught up, but I have some sad news. I missed a day on Project 365, March 23. I am still going to continue on Project 365, because the point is not to get all of the days, it is to get better at photography. I just was sad because I still wanted to get all of the days. Oh, well. There's still next year!

How to Save BURN•E

· General · 2 comments

I thought it over, and figured out that we all need to recycle. Just stop wasting things. Recycle everything, and don't buy anything you don't need. I'm not talking about some earth muffin crazy stuff. Here, I'll start from the beginning. For those of you who don't know BURN•E, he is a robot from the Pixar short that is in the movie WALL•E. He is a robot that loves to fix things. In the Pixar short, he is trying to fix a running light for pretty much the whole movie. You don't know that he has problems until you see the short.

If you haven't seen the short, we'll start with how the running light gets damaged, and why it needs to get fixed in the first place. (You could probably skip this part if you have seen the short.) WALL•E drags his hand through some ice in space while he is hanging on to a space ship. The ice gets dragged into the orbit of a nearby star. It lights on fire, and slingshots toward the space station that BURN•E is on. It hits the running light, and BURN•E gets called to fix it. He tries to replace the part, and many things go wrong. He has so many problems, that I don't even want to blog that much about his sad, sad life that day. I just want you to know that it took a very long time to fix it, and even when they returned to Earth, he still wanted to fix it, and when hie did, it broke again. Anyway, here is the whole reason of my post:

Why does BURN•E get called? Because he needs to fix the running light.

Why does the running light get broken? Because WALL•E dragged his hand through the ice.

Why did WALL•E drag his hand through the ice? Because he was on the space ship.

Why was he on the space ship? Because he was following EVE, a probe.

Why was he following EVE? Because he liked her.

Why did he like her? Because she was sent to Earth, and attracted his attention.

Why was she sent to Earth? Because she was sent to look for a plant.

Why was she sent to look for a plant? Because the people on the space station wanted to fulfill the plan to take them home.

Why did they want to go home? Because they wanted to get back to how they were before the cleanup plan for Earth.

Why did they need the cleanup plan? Because we started wasting things.

•If we stop wasting things, we will save BURN•E a great deal of trouble.

Winter Campout

· General · 1 comment

The winter campout that was on the sixth and the seventh was very fun.  We started by setting up camp. Then, some of the scouts, including me, helped build a snow cave. It already was started, but was small enough that I couldn't fit in it. By the end of the day, it had a big room inside it, and had another entrance leading into it from the other side. By night, there was another entrance, and at the morning, there was even another. I thought that when it had just two, it was perfect. I didn't help with the fourth one. But anyway, I'll go back to the night before. Dinner was very good. I might not have thought that it was good if I had it in the comfort of a warm home, but it was good. The things that made it good was that it was warm and spicy. Those two in a combination along with some hot chocolate, make you feel very, very warm.

Night

The sleep that night was terrible. I kept waking up in my burrito. The burrito is a foam pad, topped with two sleeping bags inside each other. The whole thing is wrapped in thick plastic, or in some varsity scouts' opinions, duct tape. Anyway, it is very comfortable, and very warm. My passed experience with burritos have been great. But this time, the plastic was just a little too long at the head. I usually like it just long enough where the snow falling during the night can't get in, but short enough that you can breathe cool air and the condensation collecting on your side of the plastic from your breath can't bother you. But instead, since it was too long, I couldn't breathe very well, and my face kept meeting cold condensation. Not very good. And during the night, a headache started....

Morning

I awoken by the smell of burning breakfast. Then I realized that I had a HUGE headache. It felt like a migraine, like the bad kinds I've had before, but when I got out of my burrito, it felt much, much, MUCH, worse. It felt like a migraine, the flu, being carsick, and half asleep at the same time. I was just so nauseous, that I could scream, and I felt like I was going to throw up. Luckily, one of the leaders had some Advil for me. I thought about it for a little while, and realized that my headache probably was caused by getting hit in the back of the head by a big chunk of ice while I helped work on the snow cave. It settled down a little while later, thankfully.

Later that morning, we all went snowshoeing. It was so fun! I enjoyed it so much. I felt like I was very, very out of shape. Actually, I didn't feel like I was out of shape, I knew that I was out of shape. I was pretty much the back of the pack. Even the eleven-year old scouts were way ahead of me. Everybody was. But my dad was nice, and stayed with me, even though I'm sure that he wanted to go faster. But I'm glad he loves me, and would think enough to do that for me. I still had a great time.

By the way, I still haven't missed a single day of Project 365. Not even any of the campout days, since I forgot to take one before I left. Well, if it weren't for my dad with his camera at the campout, I would have missed a day. Thanks again for letting me take a picture, dad!

Foods the Next A Day

· General, School

Well, the next school day after I blogged about not having food labs in foods class, I went to foods, and we had a food lab. Maybe I should blog about not having enough food labs more often....
